📖 Tool Introduction
The URL Parser is a free online tool that helps developers, testers and operations engineers take apart a web address in seconds. A URL looks like a single string, but underneath it is a stack of nested components: scheme, host, port, path, query string and fragment. When you are debugging an API, tracking down a cross-origin issue, building a redirect link, or analysing analytics parameters, you often need to know exactly where that address points and which parameters it carries. This tool parses with the standard browser URL API following the WHATWG specification, so it correctly handles complex addresses that embed credentials, non-standard ports, percent-encoded parameters and fragments. To match everyday habits, if your pasted text does not begin with a scheme, the tool prepends https:// for you instead of throwing an error just because http was missing. The result is shown in two layers: a grid of cards at the top lists the scheme, host, hostname, port, pathname, search string, hash and origin one by one, showing the default port when none is given and masking any embedded password for safety; below it, the query string is broken into a parameter table that is automatically percent-decoded, and repeated parameter names are kept row by row so you can verify tracking and filtering conditions. The whole process runs fully offline and makes no network requests, so it is even safe to parse intranet or local addresses. This makes the tool a reliable companion whenever you need to explain an unfamiliar link to a colleague, rebuild a tracked URL from its components, or sanity-check a redirect before turning it on in production. Because it relies on the same parser the browser itself uses, the results match what your application will actually see at runtime, which removes the subtle disagreements that can happen when you split a URL by hand with a regular expression. You can also use it to inspect whether a tracking parameter, a fragment anchor or a credentials section slipped into a link you did not expect, and the masked password field keeps that sensitive detail from being shown in the clear. Whether you are debugging on a laptop or on a phone, the layout adapts gracefully and the whole decomposition appears the moment you hit parse.
✨ Key Features
- Standard parsing: built on the WHATWG URL API for modern-browser compatibility
- Auto scheme: prepends https:// when the scheme is missing
- Complete parts: scheme, host, port, path, search, hash and origin all covered
- Parameter table: the query string is split into decoded key-value rows
- Duplicates kept: repeated parameter names stay on separate rows, never merged
- Safe masking: embedded passwords are dotted out instead of shown in plain text
📝 How to Use
- Paste the full URL into the top input, or type a partial address
- Click Parse, or press Enter to trigger it
- Read the grid cards above to verify each URL component
- Inspect the decoded key-value pairs in the parameter table below
- Click Example to load a demo address with a port and several parameters
⚠️ Notes
- Auto scheme: inputs without a scheme get https:// prepended, which may differ from the http you expected
- Default port: an empty port is shown as default, meaning no explicit port was specified
- Parameter decoding: values are percent- and plus-decoded, where plus means a space
- No requests: this tool only parses strings locally and never visits the URL
- Invalid addresses: unrecognisable addresses produce a friendly error instead of crashing
