Ratio Scaling Calculator
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
Ratio Scaling Calculator is a free online math tool that combines the proportional reasoning learned in school with everyday scaling tasks in a single page. Students working through geometry and word problems keep running into the pattern a:b = c:x and being asked to find the missing value; designers, cooks and renovation workers, when a recipe or a drawing has to be enlarged or shrunk, need to scale a number by a given p:q ratio; and homework sessions often end with the chore of reducing a fraction ratio such as 12:16 to its simplest integer form. This tool puts all three jobs behind three tabs on one screen. The solve-unknown tab presents the expression a:b=c:x as a row of chips, and once you enter three numbers it fills in x while showing the verification line a×x = b×c, so you can confirm the answer yourself. The scale tab takes an original value together with the two terms of a ratio and returns both the scaled value and the q/p multiplier. The simplify tab accepts notations like 12:16, automatically computes the greatest common divisor, and outputs the reduced integer ratio, even handling decimal pairs by first inflating them to integers and then cancelling the common factor. Everything runs locally inside your browser with no network request, the interface is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, and it lays out neatly on a phone, so no account and no installation are required. Whether you are checking a textbook answer, doubling a cake recipe for a larger party, or converting a measured length from an architectural sketch, the whole calculation takes only a few seconds and the result can be copied straight into your notes or homework. The verification line is especially useful for younger learners, because it turns an abstract rule into a number they can see and trust on their own screen, instead of waiting for a teacher to confirm the next day.
✨ Key Features
- Solve the unknown from the ratio property a×x = b×c, shown on a chip-style expression
- An automatic verification line displays both sides so you can check the answer
- Scale any value by p:q and see both the result and the q/p multiplier
- Simplify ratios written as 12:16 or 12/16 with an automatic greatest common divisor
- Decimal pairs are inflated to integers first and then reduced, keeping results clean
- One-click copy and download, so answers can go straight into homework or notes
📝 How to Use
- Choose the kind of ratio task you need from the tabs at the top
- Type the known values into the input fields for that tab
- Click Calculate and read the result card together with the verification line
- In the solve-unknown tab, the letters on the chips are replaced by your actual numbers
- Click Clear to reset everything, or copy the result into your homework
⚠️ Notes
- Zero divisors: a cannot be zero when solving the unknown, and p cannot be zero when scaling, otherwise the ratio is undefined
- Input format: for simplifying, separate the two numbers with a colon or a slash, e.g. 12:16
- Negative numbers: negative inputs are supported and follow standard algebraic rules
- Local only: every calculation runs inside the browser with no network request
- Rounding: results keep up to five decimal places with trailing zeros removed
