Chemistry Calculator
How to Use
📖 What this does
This is a chemistry calculator that runs entirely in your browser, no internet needed. It covers four sections: Mole & Molar Mass, Solutions & Concentration, Equations & Balancing, and pH & Acids. Type a chemical formula and it parses the formula automatically to give you the molar mass and the element composition — it handles bracketed forms like H2SO4, Ca(OH)2, Fe2(SO4)3 and CuSO4·5H2O. Type a chemical equation such as H2 + O2 -> H2O and it balances it for you in one click with the smallest whole-number coefficients. The conversions that eat up homework time — mass to amount of substance, particle counts, molar volume, molarity, mass fraction, dilution, preparing solutions, mole ratios, yield, strong-acid/base pH and neutralization — are all one step away, with the Avogadro constant and a table of common atomic masses built in.
✨ Features
- Formula parser: parses H2SO4, Ca(OH)2, Fe2(SO4)3 and any formula with parentheses or numeric subscripts, returning the molar mass and the composition of every element, with atomic masses for 40 common elements built in.
- Amount-of-substance conversion: n=m/M solves any of the three — mass, amount, molar mass; particle count N=n·NA gives the raw number; molar volume at STP V=22.4n is one click.
- Solution concentration: molarity c=n/V solves any of the three; mass fraction ω finds solute mass, solution mass or the fraction; dilution c1V1=c2V2 solves any of the four; preparation m=cVM gives the required solute mass.
- Automatic balancing: type H2 + O2 -> H2O, the tool counts atoms of every element and solves the smallest whole-number coefficients, printing the balanced equation and the coefficient list, including multi-species reactions like Fe2O3 + CO -> Fe + CO2.
- Ratio & yield: mole-ratio conversion nB=nA·b/a from balanced coefficients; yield = actual ÷ theoretical × 100% with any of the three quantities solvable, shown as a percentage.
- pH & neutralization: strong acid converts concentration to pH or pH back to [H+]; strong base gives [OH-], pOH and pH together; neutralization c1V1=c2V2 solves any of the four.
- Fully offline: every calculation happens locally, no network requests, works instantly and your data never leaves the browser.
🛠 How to use
- Open the plugin and enter a formula in "Mole & Molar Mass" (for example H2SO4), then press Calculate to get the molar mass and composition.
- For sections with a "Solve for" dropdown (amount of substance, molarity, dilution), pick the quantity you want first, fill in the known values, leave the target empty, and press Calculate.
- Balancing: in "Equations & Balancing" type the equation with -> or => between reactants and products (for example H2 + O2 -> H2O) and press Balance.
- pH: in "Strong acid pH" choose "Concentration → pH" and enter the acid concentration in mol/L; a monoprotic strong acid is treated as c = [H+], and the strong-base section works the same way.
- Every field comes pre-filled with an example value, so you can press Calculate immediately; clear the fields and enter your own problem when ready.
⚠️ Notes
- Formula case matters: element symbols are case-sensitive — CuSO4 must not be typed as cuso4; parentheses must be balanced. Unparseable formulas show "Cannot parse formula".
- No manual coefficients: when balancing, write only the substances and the arrow (do not write 2H2 — that will fail to parse); the plugin provides the coefficients itself.
- Concentration units: molarity is always mol/L, volume in L, mass in g. Entering mL as L gives an answer off by a factor of 1000 — convert first.
- Strong acid/base assumption: the pH section assumes complete dissociation of monoprotic strong acids and bases (like HCl, NaOH); weak acids and bases need dissociation constants and are outside this tool.
- STP definition: molar volume uses 22.4 L/mol at 0 °C and 1 atm; for other conditions convert the gas volume yourself.
