Hue shifts on the color wheel derive four harmonies from your base color

How to Use

📖 Tool Introduction

Palette Generator is an online tool that helps designers, developers and brand operators reach a harmonious color scheme without guessing. Picking colors by intuition often leaves you second-guessing your choices, so this product turns the classic theory of color harmony into a computable offset on the hue wheel. You simply choose one base color, the tool reads out its hue, and then keeps that exact saturation and lightness level while rotating around the hue circle by 180 degrees, by plus or minus 30 degrees, by 120 degrees and by 90 degrees, producing four complete sets at once: complementary, analogous, triadic and tetradic harmonies. Complementary pairs are punchy and great for emphasis; analogous families feel soft and unified for large surfaces; triadic schemes stay balanced yet lively; tetradic arrangements carry rich layering across a multi-section page. Every set is rendered as a swatch card, the chip marked with a star is the base color you picked, clicking any chip copies its HEX value, and you may also copy the whole list at once or download the palette as a file. All math follows the standard RGB to HSL formulas, hue wraps around a 360 degree cycle, out-of-range channels are clamped, and everything runs offline in your browser. If you have ever stared at a blank canvas unsure where to begin, starting from one hue and rotating around the wheel removes that paralysis instantly, because each harmony is mathematically grounded rather than guessed. The four families also cover the most common design decisions you face every day: a bold call to action wants a complementary accent, a calm landing page leans on analogous tints, a lively campaign benefits from triadic balance, and a content-rich section needs the richer spread of a tetradic scheme.

✨ Key Features

  • Complementary: the base hue rotated 180 degrees, bold contrast for buttons and accents
  • Analogous: hues offset by plus or minus 30 degrees, smooth blends for backgrounds
  • Triadic: three hues 120 degrees apart, balanced and energetic for brand pairs
  • Tetradic: four hues 90 degrees apart, rich layering for multi-block layouts
  • Tap to copy: any chip copies its HEX, or grab the whole list in one click
  • Downloadable palette: export the full set as a text file for your team

📝 How to Use

  1. Pick a base color with the well at the top, or type its HEX directly
  2. Four harmony cards appear automatically, each labelled with its angle offsets
  3. Browse the four schemes and pick the one that matches your project
  4. Click any chip to copy its HEX value to the clipboard
  5. To export everything, click Copy All HEX or Download Palette

⚠️ Notes

  • Logic: saturation and lightness of the base are kept fixed; only the hue rotates, the classic hue-wheel method
  • HEX format: only #RRGGBB is accepted; bad input warns instead of producing nonsense colors
  • Angle wrapping: hue cycles every 360 degrees, offsets are wrapped modulo the wheel, never out of range
  • Readability: harmony guarantees pleasing hue relations; check text contrast with the contrast tool
  • Local only: every conversion runs in your browser with no network request
