Timestamp Converter
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
The Timestamp Converter is a free online tool for backend, frontend and QA engineers that solves one of the most common and most error-prone conversions in everyday development: turning a Unix timestamp into a human-readable date and time, and back again. Databases usually store a plain integer like 1735689600 in seconds, while logs sometimes carry a thirteen-digit millisecond value, and when you look at it you often pause: is this seconds or milliseconds, and what time is that in my own timezone? This tool places both directions side by side on a single screen, so the left panel converts timestamps into date-time while the right panel converts date-time into timestamps, with no page switching. The most thoughtful detail is automatic detection: when the absolute value you enter exceeds one trillion, the tool treats it as milliseconds, otherwise as seconds, and it prints an explicit note about which convention it used, removing the embarrassment of missing or adding three zeros. The result shows both local time and UTC time, the former rendered in your browser timezone and the latter at the zero timezone, so you can align times when working across regions. The date-time picker on the right takes values in your local timezone and outputs both second-level and millisecond-level results, ready to be copied straight into code or API parameters. At the top, a Fill now button stamps the current local time and the current timestamp into both directions at once; along the bottom, a live current-time strip refreshes every second so you can always calibrate. Every calculation happens locally in your browser with no network calls and no uploads, which makes it safe even when you are working with production timestamps. The tool is equally handy during late-night on-call sessions, when a log entry shows an epoch value and you just need to know, without opening a database client, whether it happened before or after the incident you are investigating. Because both directions live on one screen, you never lose the original value while switching between interpreting and constructing timestamps.
✨ Key Features
- Two-way conversion: timestamp to time and time to timestamp on one screen
- Auto-detection: seconds versus milliseconds chosen by magnitude with a note
- Dual timezone: local time and UTC time shown together
- Current time: one click fills and converts the present moment
- Two results: both second-level and millisecond-level timestamps are given
- Live clock: the current time at the bottom refreshes every second
📝 How to Use
- Paste a timestamp into the left box and press Enter or click Convert to time
- Read the local and UTC times, noting whether seconds or milliseconds was assumed
- Pick a target moment in the right-hand date-time picker
- Click Convert to timestamp and read the second-level and millisecond-level results
- Click Fill now whenever you need the present moment instantly
⚠️ Notes
- Seconds vs milliseconds: values above 1e12 are milliseconds, otherwise seconds, and the tool states which it used
- Timezone differences: local time follows the browser timezone and may differ from the server
- Valid range: timestamps outside the representable range produce an error message
- Date picking: the right picker uses local timezone, so compare it with the UTC result
- Offline: all conversions happen locally with no network dependency
