The check digit is not chosen freely; it is derived from the first 12 digits using a fixed weighting rule: reading from right to left, odd positions are multiplied by 1 and even positions by 3, the sum is taken modulo 10, and the check digit equals 10 minus that remainder. This tool displays the whole calculation on screen, showing the odd-position weighted sum, the even-position weighted sum, the total and the final check digit, so you receive not only the barcode but also a clear explanation of how the check digit is produced.
