Audio Tone Generator
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
The Audio Tone Generator is a completely free, ready-to-use online acoustic testing tool that synthesizes sound in real time through the WebAudio engine built into your browser. No file upload and no software installation are required. It offers four classic waveforms: sine, square, triangle and sawtooth, and its frequency range covers the entire audible spectrum from 20Hz up to 20kHz. Volume and duration are freely adjustable, and the readout always shows the nearest standard note name for the current frequency, for example A4 equals 440Hz. Whether you are calibrating speakers, testing the frequency response of a loudspeaker, running a simple hearing experiment, or just need a reliable reference pitch during music production, this tool delivers a clean, stable test tone every time. Every synthesis operation happens locally on your device, so nothing is uploaded and the whole process stays private. While you drag the sliders, the timbre, frequency and volume respond instantly, and the dark studio-console interface works smoothly on both desktop and mobile browsers. Because it relies purely on oscillator nodes and gain envelopes rather than audio samples, the output is mathematically accurate down to the chosen frequency, which makes it suitable for demonstrations of acoustics, for tuning monitors, and for quick checks that a sound card or headphone pair actually plays across the full bass, mid and treble range. Musicians can use it as a lightweight tuning reference to practise relative pitch, sound engineers can sweep through frequencies when testing a room, and teachers can illustrate how different waveforms change the perceived brightness of a note. Because every sound is generated mathematically rather than played back from a recording, the tool works instantly even on very slow connections, loads in a fraction of a second, and never asks you to download samples or sign in to a service.
✨ Key Features
- Four classic waveforms: pure sine, bright square, soft triangle, rich sawtooth
- Logarithmic frequency slider: fine control from 20Hz to 20kHz with automatic note-name matching
- Smart gain envelope: smooth attack and fade-out, no audible clicks
- Flexible duration: 1s, 2s, 5s or continuous, stop with one tap
- WAV export: offline rendering of the current timbre as a standard PCM file
- Parameter copy: one tap copies waveform, frequency and volume for notes
📝 How to Use
- Click a waveform card to choose the desired timbre
- Drag the frequency slider and watch the number and note name update live
- Drag the volume slider to a comfortable level, start below half
- Pick a duration and press the round play button to audition
- Export the result as WAV, or copy the parameters to keep a record
⚠️ Notes
- Hearing protection: very loud or prolonged high-frequency test tones may damage your hearing, keep the volume moderate
- Browser policy: the audio engine starts only after the first click, which is an autoplay restriction and perfectly normal
- Click noises: an envelope is already applied; if you still hear pops, check other audio apps on your system
- Frequency range: below 20Hz is infrasound and above 20kHz is ultrasound, most speakers cannot reproduce it
- Device differences: frequency responses vary between headphones and speakers, treat results as reference
