Video Clip Cutter
Frame accuracy decodes up to the start point: exact but much slower. Leave it off for long files.
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
Cut a segment out of a video entirely in your browser: no editing software, no upload. Pick the video, say where the clip starts and how long it runs, and press start.
Keeping the source format is the fastest option by far. It copies the streams instead of re-encoding, so a large file finishes in seconds and quality is bit-for-bit identical. The trade-off is that the start point snaps to the nearest keyframe, which can shift it by a fraction of a second.
When the exact frame matters, tick frame accurate and the decoder walks to the requested position before cutting, landing within a frame of what you asked for. That costs real time, because everything before the start has to be decoded. Leave it off for long recordings and turn it on for short clips or anything that has to line up with something else.
Choosing MP4, WebM or MKV re-encodes, which sits between the two in speed and lets you normalise the format and trim the size while you are at it. If you just want a piece to send on, keeping the source format is the least fuss.
Time fields accept decimals, so 1.5 starts one and a half seconds in, and leaving duration empty runs to the end. Processing uses a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg: about 24 MB downloads the first time and is cached after, and the source video never leaves your device.
It also helps to know what a keyframe actually is. Encoders store a full frame every so often and only the differences in between, so a clean cut is possible at each full frame and nowhere else, which is the whole reason the two modes exist.
✨ Key Features
- Any segment: start time and duration, both in decimal seconds
- Keep source format: streams are copied, no re-encode, identical quality and very fast
- Frame accurate option that lands within one frame of the requested start
- Format conversion to MP4, WebM or MKV with re-encoding
- Batch mode: add several videos and each is cut in turn
- Live progress showing which file is being handled
🚀 How to Use
- Drag a video into the drop area, or click to choose one
- Enter the start time in seconds, decimals allowed
- Enter the duration, or leave it empty to run to the end
- Keeping the source format is usually both fastest and lossless, so tick frame accurate only when the exact start frame matters and expect it to be slower
- Press start, then download when it finishes
⚠️ Things to Note
- Engine size: The first run downloads about 24 MB of WebAssembly engine, cached for later visits
- Speed trade-off: Keeping the source format is fastest and lossless; frame accuracy is exact but decodes from the start; re-encoding sits in between and lets you change format
- Keyframe drift: With frame accuracy off the start snaps to the nearest keyframe, usually within a fraction of a second, which rarely matters when cutting a scene but does matter if the clip has to line up with a beat or another camera angle
- Browser memory: Everything happens in browser memory, so a very large video can exhaust it. Split long recordings into pieces
- Privacy: The video is processed locally and never uploaded. Reloading the page clears it completely
