📖 Tool Introduction

Shift Scheduler is a free online rostering tool for retail, factories, property management, support desks and on-call teams, helping a foreman lay out a week of shifts inside a people-by-dates grid. Scheduling in a spreadsheet usually means dragging cells back and forth and still ending up with someone assigned to two shifts on the same day; this tool removes that drudgery. You type the staff names one per line, pick a start date and a number of days, and click build to get a grid whose rows are people and whose columns are consecutive dates. Each cell offers a dropdown to choose morning, mid, night or off, and the four shift types are colour-coded in green, yellow, blue and grey so the whole table reads at a glance. Once the roster is filled, clicking check conflicts scans the list for the same name appearing on more than one row, which means that person has been double-booked; any offending rows are turned red in full and the conflicting names are listed, so omissions and duplicates are caught before publishing. The finished table can be copied as tab-separated text or exported as a file, ready to paste into a group announcement or print out and pin up. Everything runs locally in your browser with no network call and no upload, which makes it practical for drawing up a roster on the spot. The colour coding means you can scan the whole grid in seconds and spot coverage gaps at a glance, while the conflict check gives you confidence that no one has been scheduled twice before the sheet goes up. Because the export is plain tab-separated text, it drops straight into any spreadsheet app for further tweaks, or it can be pasted into a group chat so every team member sees their own days. Whether you run a small shop, a security team, or a weekend volunteer rota, this tool removes the friction of building a fair, readable and conflict-free schedule.

✨ Key Features

  • People x dates grid: rows are staff and columns are consecutive dates
  • Shift dropdown: each cell picks morning, mid, night or off, colour-coded
  • Conflict detection: finds duplicate names causing double-bookings and rows them red
  • Adjustable span: defaults to a week, with 1 to 14 days supported
  • Colour-coded shifts: green morning, yellow mid, blue night, grey off
  • Copy and export: the roster is copied or downloaded as tab-separated text

📝 How to Use

  1. Type the staff names, one per line, in the people box
  2. Pick a start date and enter the number of days to schedule
  3. Click Build schedule to produce the people-by-dates grid
  4. Use each cell dropdown to assign a shift per person per day
  5. Click Check conflicts, then copy or export the roster when it is clean

⚠️ Notes

  • Staff input: one person per line; blank lines are ignored and duplicates trigger a warning
  • Day range: between 1 and 14 days is supported, and out-of-range values are clamped
  • Default shift: new cells default to off and can be changed to any shift
  • Fully local: the grid and conflict check run in the browser with no upload
  • Export format: exported as tab-separated text that pastes straight into a spreadsheet
