How to Use

📖 Tool Introduction

Tax Split Calculator is a practical little utility built for accountants, purchasers, salespeople and self-employed owners, designed to solve the single most common question that pops up when you issue invoices, write quotations or prepare expense claims: given a tax-inclusive total, how do you work out the tax-exclusive amount and the tax itself? Conversely, once you know the pre-tax cost, how can you quickly derive the tax-inclusive price you should quote? The tool offers a one-tap toggle between Gross to Net and Net to Gross directions. After you type in an amount, pick a rate (six commonly used VAT rates are one tap away, namely 13%, 9%, 6%, 3%, 1% and 0%, and you can also type any custom percentage into the field), you instantly receive three result cards: net price, tax amount and gross price, each accompanied by a full formula echo that you can screenshot for records or use to double-check your arithmetic. Every value is rigorously rounded to the cent so it matches how VAT invoices are issued, and the awkward situation where the totals differ by a single penny never happens. All calculations run locally in your browser: your figures are never uploaded anywhere, which means you can safely work on sensitive numbers such as quotations, contracts and expense reports without worrying about data leakage. Because the interface is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, it also fits bilingual teams and cross-border invoicing workflows, where a quick reliable split saves minutes on every transaction.

✨ Key Features

  • Bidirectional math: split gross into net, or derive gross from net, with a single switch
  • Configurable rates: six preset VAT rates for one-tap selection, plus any custom decimal from 0 to 100
  • Three result cells: net price, tax amount and gross price shown side by side, with the input value highlighted
  • Formula echo: every step of the calculation is displayed for verification, teaching and archiving
  • Rounded to the cent: matches invoice conventions, and the reverse direction stays consistent with no penny drift
  • One-click copy: the result text is copied straight to the clipboard for pasting into sheets or contracts

📝 How to Use

  1. Choose the direction at the top: split gross into net, or build gross from net
  2. Type the known price amount into the amount field; up to two decimals are accepted
  3. Tap a preset rate chip, or type a custom percentage into the rate input
  4. Click Calculate and read the three result cells plus the formula shown below
  5. Click Copy result to put the text on the clipboard, or Clear to start over

⚠️ Notes

  • Valid amount: the amount must be a valid number not less than zero; blank or negative input triggers a friendly warning
  • Rate range: the rate must sit between 0 and 100; anything outside is rejected with a clear message
  • Rounding convention: results round to the cent uniformly; if your accounting system uses another rule, follow that system
  • Policy reference: the preset rates are common VAT reference values, and actual rates should follow the latest tax regulations
  • Local computation: every calculation happens in the browser with no network request, so sensitive figures stay private
