How to Use

📖 Tool Introduction

The Chinese Idiom Dictionary is an offline reference for language study, writing and everyday expression. It bundles more than one hundred common four-character Chinese idioms into a set of large-type cards. On the left of each card the idiom itself is rendered in big characters, and below it the pinyin, the plain meaning and a down-to-earth example sentence are stacked in turn, so you can both recognize the writing, read the pronunciation correctly, grasp the meaning and learn how to use the idiom inside a real sentence. Across the top you get both an A to Z first-letter index that browses a whole group by pinyin initial, and a search box that reverse-searches by idiom characters, pinyin syllables or even a definition keyword: when you only half-remember a meaning but cannot recall the exact idiom, typing the meaning brings up the candidates. The vertical card list reads smoothly, and on a phone the single-column flow feels especially natural. All data is bundled inside your browser with no network request at all, so the tool opens instantly and works offline, making it a pocket companion for student essays, lesson preparation and anyone who wants sharper written expression. Because nothing is uploaded, your study notes and drafts never leave your device, and the large-type idiom display is chosen on purpose so the characters themselves stay legible even at a glance, which helps memorize both the look and the sound of each idiom while you read. Keep this page open whenever you polish an essay, prepare for a dictation, look up a saying a student asked about or choose a vivid phrase for a speech, and the right idiom with its pinyin, meaning and example is always one tap away, with no sign-up, no waiting and no online lookup needed.

✨ Key Features

  • Large-type cards: the idiom itself stands out in big, legible characters
  • Three in one: every entry carries pinyin, meaning and an example for real use
  • A–Z index: filter a whole group by pinyin initial in one tap
  • Reverse lookup: remember the meaning but not the idiom? type the keyword to find it
  • Vertical list: cards stream down the page, comfortable on phones
  • Copy and download: export the current filtered set as tab-separated text

📝 How to Use

  1. Tap an A–Z letter on the top strip to browse by pinyin initial
  2. Or type idiom characters, a pinyin syllable or a meaning keyword and press Enter
  3. The card list filters instantly and the large idiom plus meaning stand out
  4. Read the example under a card to feel how the idiom is used
  5. Click Copy or Download to keep the result when you need it

⚠️ Notes

  • Meaning scale: definitions follow general modern dictionary conventions and take the common sense
  • Example nature: examples are plain illustrative sentences, not classical quotations
  • Coverage: common idioms are included; rare ones and full allusions are not expanded
  • Offline snapshot: the tool never goes online, so bundled data may lag behind
  • Tones: pinyin marks tone symbols for reading reference only
