PII Masker
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
PII Masker is a practical redaction tool for protecting personal privacy before you share data externally. Whenever you export a user list, a customer record, a sign-up form or a customer-service chat to forward to a colleague, paste into a ticket system, or upload to a shared knowledge base, sending it raw exposes mobile numbers, national ID numbers, email addresses, real names and bank card numbers, which creates both compliance and privacy risk. This tool offers five tickable detection-and-redaction rules for the most common kinds of sensitive data. Phone numbers are recognized as eleven-digit Chinese mobile numbers and, by default, keep the first three and last four digits while the middle four become asterisks. ID numbers always keep the six-digit region code and the last four digits. Email addresses keep the first letter of the local part while the rest is starred. Bank cards are recognized as runs of sixteen to nineteen consecutive digits. Names are detected only next to a label such as name or contact, keeping the family-name initial. How many leading and trailing digits to keep is fully adjustable, so you can balance readability against safety for different business needs. After every run the tool reports how many items of each type were matched, shown as chips, so you can verify that redaction was complete and nothing slipped through. All detection and replacement happens locally in your browser, and the original text is never uploaded to any server, which makes the tool well suited for handling real customer data rather than anonymized samples. Because the rules are independent, you can enable just the categories that actually appear in a particular document and leave the rest off, avoiding pointless changes to the text. The result is a clean, share-ready version that keeps records identifiable to their owners through the surviving digits while hiding everything truly sensitive. Because each rule runs independently and the keep-leading and keep-trailing counters are global, you can dial the output from fully private to barely recognizable in a single adjustment, which is handy when a support team still needs to tell two similar records apart without ever seeing the raw number.
✨ Key Features
- Five rules: phone, ID card, email, name and bank card, ticked independently
- Adjustable digits: choose how many leading and trailing characters survive
- Smart matching: matches by numbering scheme and structure, avoiding normal numbers
- Per-type counts: chips show how many of each kind were masked
- Private by design: redaction runs in the browser with zero uploads
- Instant: paste and process; results copy and download cleanly
📝 How to Use
- Tick the masking rules you need; multiple choices are allowed
- Set how many leading and trailing digits to keep
- Paste the text to mask into the input area
- Click Mask Text and inspect the redacted result
- Confirm via the per-type counts, then copy or download
⚠️ Notes
- Coverage: matching follows common structures; unusual or malformed numbers may be missed, so spot-check
- Name matching: names are only detected after a label, to avoid redacting ordinary words
- Digit setting: leading plus trailing should not exceed the number length, or the star area shrinks automatically
- Rule order: ID cards are matched before bank cards so long numbers are not double-masked
- Before sharing: spot-check the output so nothing sensitive remains before publishing
