Line Shuffler
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
Line Shuffler is a completely free, instant online text reordering tool built for one simple job: taking a list written one item per line and scattering every line into a brand-new random order. It is the perfect companion whenever you need to randomize a to-do list, a roster of names, a set of quiz questions, song tracks, raffle prizes, or student groups. Under the hood it uses the classic Fisher-Yates shuffle, swapping pairs of positions step by step, so that every single line has exactly the same mathematical chance of landing anywhere in the output. There is no hidden bias, no favourite line that always ends up first. The signature feature of this tool is the reproducible random seed: once you type a number and switch on the fixed-seed mode, the very same input text will always produce the very same shuffled order, no matter how many times you reload the page or come back tomorrow. That property matters a lot in classrooms, lottery announcements and controlled experiments, where every result must be demonstrable and checkable by an observer. If your list starts with a title line you would like to keep pinned on top, just tick the keep-first-line option and only the data lines below will be scrambled; ticking the drop-blank-lines switch quietly removes empty rows before shuffling so the result looks tidy. Everything is computed locally inside your browser, so your text never travels to any server and your privacy stays untouched. Live statistics show characters, words and lines on both the input and output panels, and the number of lines is preserved exactly. The interface speaks Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, follows the website dark theme automatically, and adapts fluidly to phone screens. There is nothing to register and nothing to install: paste, click, copy. For quick sessions the Ctrl+Enter shortcut triggers a shuffle without reaching for the mouse, and the re-shuffle button hands you another fresh arrangement in a single click. Because no network is involved, the tool also runs flawlessly on airplanes, in offline meetings and on very restricted machines. Even a list of ten thousand lines is processed almost instantly, and the exported .txt file keeps the exact line endings you started with.
✨ Key Features
- Fair shuffle: Fisher-Yates swaps lines step by step with strictly equal probability
- Reproducible seed: the same seed always yields the same order for demos and audits
- Keep first line: pin a header on top while only the data rows are shuffled
- Drop blank rows: strip empty lines first for a cleaner output list
- Live statistics: character, word and line counts on both panels at a glance
- Fully offline: all math runs in your browser and your text is never uploaded
📝 How to Use
- Paste your one-item-per-line list into the input area
- Tick keep-first-line or drop-blank-lines according to your needs
- Turn on fixed seed and type a number when you need a repeatable result
- Click Shuffle Now to instantly reorder all lines in the output panel
- Click Shuffle Again for another arrangement, then copy or download the .txt
⚠️ Notes
- Empty input: when nothing is pasted the tool shows a friendly hint instead of a blank result
- Empty seed: if fixed seed is on but the field is blank, seed 42 is used automatically
- Line endings: Windows CRLF, classic Mac CR and Unix LF are all normalized correctly
- No content change: shuffling only changes the order, never edits the text of any line
- Large lists: for tens of thousands of lines, wait a moment instead of double-clicking
