Vocal Remover
How to Use
🎵 Vocal Remover
This tool separates vocals from the instrumental in a song. Pick an audio file and the tool applies centre-channel cancellation: lead vocals are usually mixed dead centre, so subtracting the left channel from the right cancels whatever sits in the middle and leaves the material panned to the sides. Running it the other way yields a vocal-forward version.
Processing happens locally in the browser and the audio is never uploaded. You can preview the result before deciding, then download it as WAV. Output can be the instrumental, the vocal, or both. Since this is pure signal processing rather than source separation, results depend heavily on how the track was mixed, and not every song comes apart cleanly.
Typical uses include pulling an instrumental for practice or a cover, building a karaoke track, isolating a vocal line for sampling, or just hearing what sits underneath the lead in a busy arrangement.
Expect some artefacts. Reverb tails, backing vocals panned near centre, and anything summed mono will survive the subtraction to some degree. Mono source files cannot be processed at all, because the method needs two distinct channels to compare in the first place.
Compressed formats are decoded before processing, so an MP3 source is fine, but any quality already lost in that encoding carries through to the output. For the cleanest separation, start from a lossless file such as FLAC or WAV when you have one available.
Some tracks respond better to a second pass, though running cancellation repeatedly also thins the remaining material, so compare the preview each time before committing. Where a song has a very wide stereo image, the instrumental usually survives nearly intact, and those are the files worth starting with.
Headphones make the difference between a result that sounds acceptable and one that does not, so check the preview on headphones rather than on laptop speakers.
✨ Features
- Separates vocals and instrumental locally using centre-channel cancellation
- Export the instrumental, the vocal, or both
- Preview the processed audio before downloading
- WAV output that keeps the original sample rate and channel count
- Fully local processing: no upload, works offline
- Progress indicator, so long tracks never look stuck
🚀 How to Use
- Click to choose an audio file, or drag it into the upload area
- Pick the mode: extract instrumental or vocal
- Wait for processing; the progress bar shows where it is
- Press preview to confirm the result sounds right
- When satisfied, press download to save the WAV file
⚠️ Notes
- Results depend on the mix: if the vocal is not centred, or the instrumental also sits in the middle, you get leftovers or audible loss
- Low end takes a hit: bass and kick drums are usually centred too, so they are often weakened along with the vocal
- WAV output is large: a few minutes of audio can reach tens of megabytes, so convert it yourself if you need something smaller
- Long files take time: decoding and processing a lengthy track is slow, so keep the page open
- One file at a time: batch work means repeating the steps for each file
