How to Use

📖 Tool Introduction

PDF Page Numbers adds consistent numbering, headers and footers to a document that is already finished. Whether it is a bundle you just merged, a file exported from a scanner, or a PDF you received that never had numbers, you can stamp every page in one pass instead of going back to Word and re-paginating.

Four numbering formats are available: plain number, Page N, N / M, and Page N of M. The starting number can be set independently, which is handy for reserving numbers for front matter or for continuing numbering across several merged documents.

Header and footer text is fully customisable and works in both Chinese and English. The text is rendered to an image before being embedded, which sidesteps the usual failure where standard PDF fonts cannot encode CJK characters, so any font and any character displays correctly.

Processing runs locally in your browser and the PDF is never uploaded. You can apply one numbering setup to several files at once and download each result separately.

Stamping is deliberately conservative: the number is centred horizontally and placed inside a margin that scales with the font size, so ordinary documents come out looking tidy without any tweaking. Very unusual page sizes, such as long strips or business cards, are the main case where you may want to check the preview before keeping the result.

Typical uses include numbering a bundle produced by the merge tool, adding a draft date or a project name to every page before circulation, and restoring the numbering on a document that was exported without it. Setting the start value lets you reserve numbers for a cover and a table of contents, or continue numbering when two documents are meant to read as one continuous file.

✨ Key Features

  • Four number formats: plain number, Page N, N / M, and Page N of M
  • Adjustable start value: reserve numbers for front matter or continue across documents
  • Custom header and footer: any Chinese or English text, or leave blank for numbers only
  • Position choice: header, footer, or both at once
  • CJK safe: text is rasterised before embedding, so no font encoding failure
  • Batch processing: apply one setup to several PDFs and download each result separately

🚀 How to Use

  1. Pick PDFs in the upload area on the left or drag them in; several at once is fine
  2. Enter header and footer text, or leave a field blank if you do not need it
  3. Choose the number format, position, font size and starting page
  4. Press start and wait for the progress bar to fill
  5. Check the page count in the result area, download, and flip through a few pages to confirm placement

⚠️ Things to Note

  • Cannot be undone alone: Numbers and text are stamped on top of existing content and cannot be removed separately, so keep your original
  • What the start value means: A start value of 1 makes the first page show 1
  • Oversized text is scaled: Oversized text is scaled down to fit within eighty percent of the page width
  • Small pages may overlap: On very small pages or narrow margins the number may overlap the body text
  • Restricted files need unlocking: Encrypted or permission-restricted PDFs must be unlocked first
