📖 Tool Introduction

The Couplet Generator is a traditional wordplay tool that runs entirely inside your browser. During Spring Festival, weddings and shop openings, people love to hang a neatly balanced couplet, yet once the brush is in hand it is easy to settle on the upper line and get stuck on the lower one. This tool solves exactly that moment. You type an upper line of four to ten Chinese characters, and the engine first looks it up in a built-in corpus of famous couplets. If your line matches a classic such as days add years and years add longevity, the tool immediately returns its historically paired lower line and a matching four-character banner. If the upper line is not in the corpus, it chooses an auspicious lower line of the same length from a generic bank and attaches a suitable banner. The result is rendered as a pair of red vertical scrolls with gold characters, the horizontal banner centered above them, the upper scroll on the left and the lower scroll on the right, reproducing the way spring couplets actually look when pasted on a door frame. You can read the whole couplet at a glance, and copy or download it as plain text for transcribing onto red paper. Because every line is bundled locally, no network call is made and the corpus works fully offline, which makes the tool handy whenever you are writing spring couplets, wedding couplets or simply practising the art of pairing. The built-in sample loads a well-known seven-character blessing so you can immediately see how the paired lower line and banner appear together on the scrolls. Because the generic bank is selected by a stable hash of your upper line, re-entering the same line always returns the same lower line, so you never lose a pairing you liked between visits. The vertical writing mode keeps the two scrolls looking authentic, and the large serif characters make the result feel like a finished piece rather than a plain text box. Whether you are drafting a door couplet, a shop banner, or just playing with the classical art of antithetical writing, the tool turns an upper line into a complete pair in a single click.

✨ Key Features

  • Classic pairs: over ten famous couplets return their historically matched lower line
  • Generic completion: unknown upper lines are paired by length from an auspicious bank
  • Matching banner: every lower line comes with a four-character horizontal banner
  • Red scroll display: gold on red vertical scrolls recreate the spring-couplet look
  • One-click copy: upper line, lower line and banner copy together for transcription
  • Fully local: the whole corpus is bundled, works offline too

📝 How to Use

  1. Write your upper line in the box, four to ten Chinese characters
  2. Click Match lower line, or press Ctrl+Enter
  3. Read the upper line, lower line and banner on the red scrolls
  4. The note below explains whether the pair came from the classic or generic bank
  5. Click Copy or Download when happy, then transcribe it onto red paper

⚠️ Notes

  • Chinese only: the upper line should be four to ten characters, no punctuation
  • Tone tips: traditionally the upper line ends in an oblique tone, the lower in a level tone
  • Generic pairs: non-classic lower lines are auspicious phrases, not strictly parallel
  • Equal length: equal character counts look most balanced; five and seven are common
  • For fun: results suit spring couplets and practice, polish them formally when needed
