📖 Tool Introduction
The Smart Summarizer is an extractive text-condensing tool that runs entirely inside your browser. When you face a lengthy report, a news article or a pile of meeting notes, it does not call any remote large language model. Instead, it uses a transparent sentence-scoring algorithm to automatically pick the few sentences that best represent the whole argument, then stitches them back together in their original order into a short readable summary. The pipeline begins by splitting the text into standalone sentences, then collects the most frequent terms across the document as candidate keywords. For every sentence the engine computes its keyword density, and layers on two more factors: a position bonus, because the first and last sentences usually state the main idea, and a length penalty, because fragments that are too short to mean anything or paragraphs that are unwieldy long should count for less. The sentences are then ranked by their combined score, the top ones are chosen, and the chosen sentences are re-ordered to follow the original reading flow. The result is rendered as a quoted summary card that also shows the compression ratio, and below the card each selected sentence is listed together with its score, so you can see exactly why those lines were picked. You control the output length either by fixing the number of sentences or by choosing a percentage of the source, and the summary can be copied or downloaded as plain text in one click. Because nothing leaves the browser, the tool is well suited for quickly digesting news on your commute, distilling meeting minutes, or trimming down a long reading note, and it works just as well offline as it does online. The built-in sample demonstrates the whole pipeline in one click, so you can immediately compare the original article against the extracted summary and inspect how each chosen sentence earned its score. Switching between count mode and ratio mode takes only a tap, and the segmented control keeps both choices visible without hiding the other. Whether your source is a five-paragraph essay or a multi-page report, the same scoring logic stays fair and consistent, because every sentence is judged by the same three factors rather than by any opaque black-box decision.
✨ Key Features
- Extractive summary: keeps the strongest original sentences verbatim, never fabricating new wording
- Three-factor scoring: keyword density, sentence position and length penalty combined
- Controllable length: switch freely between a fixed sentence count and a percentage ratio
- Card display: the summary sits in a quote card with compression statistics
- Explainable: each extracted sentence is listed with its score for review
- Fully local: your text never leaves the browser, with copy and download support
📝 How to Use
- Paste the article you want to condense into the left input area
- Choose by sentence count or by ratio on the segmented switch
- Set how many sentences to keep, or the summary as a percentage of the source
- Click the Summarize button, or press Ctrl+Enter
- Read the result in the right summary card, then copy it or download it
⚠️ Notes
- Complete sentences: the input should contain several sentences ending with punctuation
- Not generative: the tool extracts original sentences and never rewrites or polishes them
- Ratio range: for ratio mode, ten to thirty percent keeps the summary meaningful
- Structure matters: articles with a clear opening and closing summarize best
- Reference only: always read the full source before publishing any summary
