📖 Tool Introduction
CSV Cleaner is a free online tool built for data cleanup. CSV files exported from systems, scraped from the web, or pasted by hand are often polluted with duplicate rows, stray spaces around fields, fully blank lines and extra columns you do not need; importing them straight into a database or Excel frequently errors out or produces messy results. This tool parses and cleans everything locally in your browser: it ships a CSV parser that understands quoted fields, so commas and escaped double quotes inside a field never split the column incorrectly, unlike a naive comma split. You can tick four cleanup operations: remove fully duplicated rows (whole-row comparison, first occurrence kept), trim leading and trailing spaces and tabs from every field, drop blank rows, and keep only the first N columns. After cleaning, the result is previewed as a table showing the first 50 rows, while a stats line reports the original row count, the cleaned row count, the number of columns and how many rows were removed, so you know exactly what happened. The exported CSV carries a UTF-8 BOM so Excel on Windows opens it without garbled characters, and fields containing commas or quotes are automatically quoted on write. Because all processing is local, the file never reaches a server, which makes the cleaner safe for customer lists, order details and other sensitive spreadsheets. The parser follows common RFC-style quoting rules, so most real-world exports from spreadsheets and databases round-trip cleanly. Whether you prepare a mailing list, normalize a scraped product feed, or tidy a survey response export, the whole clean-and-download loop takes seconds and never leaves your machine. A built-in sample loads a small polluted table the moment you click the example button, so first-time users can immediately watch dedupe, trim and column cut work on real-looking rows instead of trying their own file blind. Because the parser understands quoted fields, even rows that contain commas inside a quoted address or product description round-trip without shifting columns, which is the single most common failure of quick online cleaners. The stats line is designed to be read before download: if the row count dropped more than expected, you can untick an option and rerun rather than exporting a broken file. The whole workflow needs no account, no upload and no installation, which makes the cleaner safe for customer lists, order details and other spreadsheets you would rather not email to a web service.
✨ Key Features
- Quote-safe parsing: handles commas and escaped quotes inside fields
- Whole-row dedupe: exact row match, first occurrence kept
- Field trim: strips spaces and tabs from both ends of every field
- Blank rows removed: one click drops fully empty lines
- Column cut: keep only the first N columns, drop the rest
- Excel friendly: UTF-8 BOM on export, opens cleanly
📝 How to Use
- Drop the CSV into the dashed box, or click to choose it
- Tick the cleanup options; set column cut to 0 to keep all columns
- Click Clean now and inspect the first 50 rows in the table
- Check the stats line to confirm removed rows and columns
- Click Download cleaned CSV to save the new file
⚠️ Notes
- Quote aware: the parser follows RFC-style quoting and never splits columns wrongly
- Dedupe scope: only identical whole rows are removed; reordered fields count as different rows
- Column cut: keeps the first N columns; middle columns cannot be kept selectively
- Preview cap: the table shows 50 rows; the download has all cleaned rows
- Local and safe: files never touch a server, sensitive spreadsheets are safe
