Split by lines or characters, download each chunk
How to Use
📖 Tool Introduction
Text Splitter chops one large text file into several smaller files. Oversized logs need exporting in segments, long novels need splitting by chapter, and question banks need packaging by count, yet upload forms and forums often refuse files that are too big. Drop the file into the dashed area and choose a split mode: line mode keeps exactly N whole lines per chunk and never cuts a line in half; character mode yields about N characters per chunk, a rough size-based split that may cut mid-line. Type the chunk size in the input, defaulting to 10. Click Split now and the tool reads the whole file as UTF-8, divides it by your rule, and lists every chunk row by row: a blue numbered badge starts at 001 with zero padding for easy sorting, the middle shows the chunk's byte size and line count, followed by a content preview, and the far right is a standalone download button, so each chunk saves on its own as part-001.txt, part-002.txt, and so on. A summary bar on top shows the source's total characters, lines and chunk count. Everything runs in your browser, so logs, manuscripts and config files are never uploaded.
✨ Key Features
- Two modes: lines keep whole lines; chars split by rough volume
- Pretty numbering: chunks start at 001 with zero padding for sorting
- Per-chunk download: each chunk saves separately as part-XXX.txt
- Live preview: every row shows size, line count and opening text
- Clear summary: source characters, lines and total chunk count on top
- Local loop: reads and splits as UTF-8, zero uploads
📝 How to Use
- Drop the text file to split into the dashed area, or click to choose
- Pick a mode: N lines per chunk or N characters per chunk
- Enter the chunk size N in the input box
- Click Split now and inspect each chunk in the list
- Download chunks one by one as part-XXX.txt series
⚠️ Notes
- Whole lines: char mode may cut mid-line; use line mode to keep lines intact
- Encoding: files are read as UTF-8; other encodings may garble
- Last chunk: the final chunk is usually shorter than N, which is normal
- Naming: chunks are named part-001.txt and can be renamed as needed
- Privacy: reading and splitting happen entirely in the browser
🧰 Common use cases
Upload forms, forums and mail servers often reject attachments over a size limit, and a single giant export has to become several smaller pieces before it goes anywhere. Splitting by lines keeps each chunk coherent for logs, transcripts and essays where a cut must never bisect a sentence; splitting by characters approximates a byte quota for question banks, dictionaries and payload dumps where rough volume is good enough. Chunks are numbered from 001 with zero padding so part-10 sorts after part-9 in any file browser, and every row shows the chunk size, line count and a text preview so you can sanity-check a boundary before downloading. The last piece is usually shorter than the target size, which is expected. Each chunk downloads individually as part-XXX.txt, and the whole read-and-split loop runs in your browser, so drafts and logs stay private and offline-friendly.
