📖 Tool Introduction

The BPM Converter is a free online timing tool for music producers and video editors that turns an abstract tempo into concrete milliseconds and seconds you can actually work with. When you cut short clips to a beat, design sound effects for a game, build a metronome, or align subtitles, you often need to know exactly how long a beat at 120 BPM lasts, how much time an eighth note should occupy, and how many seconds a four-beat bar fills. With BPM as the only input, this tool instantly calculates the duration of one beat in both milliseconds and seconds, plus the precise values of quarter, eighth, sixteenth, half and whole notes. It also supports the four most common time signatures, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 6/8, and reports the total length of one bar for whichever you pick. The 6/8 case is handled correctly as a compound meter: the eighth note gets the beat, so one bar equals the length of three quarter notes. Every result updates live as you type, with no button presses required, and a row of clear tiles shows everything at a glance, while a copy button exports the numbers as plain text for your notes. The tool runs entirely in the browser, it never connects to a network and never stores anything, so it is safe to use on a phone or a laptop during a live session, in a rehearsal room, or at a desktop workstation. Podcasters setting episode pacing, streamers timing transition effects, and students learning rhythm theory all benefit from having a trustworthy conversion table that appears the moment they type a tempo number. Musicians rehearsing with a click track, film editors placing hits exactly on the beat, and even fitness instructors planning interval timers can copy the values straight into their working documents without grabbing a calculator or hunting through old cheat sheets.

✨ Key Features

  • Live conversion: all tiles update the moment you type a BPM
  • Eight durations: beat, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, half, whole note and bar length
  • Four time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 6/8, bar length adapts automatically
  • Dual units: millisecond and second values rounded to one decimal for editors
  • One-tap copy: every result exports as clean plain text
  • Fully offline: no network, no storage, privacy-safe

📝 How to Use

  1. Type the target BPM into the input, for example 120
  2. Pick the time signature of the piece from the dropdown
  3. Read the note durations and bar length in the result tiles
  4. Adjust the BPM or switch signature whenever you need
  5. Press copy to paste the numbers into your project notes

⚠️ Notes

  • Convention: BPM always means quarter-note tempo, 6/8 is converted with the eighth note as the beat
  • Reasonable range: 30 to 300 BPM is recommended, outside this the result is still shown but is reference only
  • Rounding: results keep one decimal, extreme tempos may have small rounding errors
  • Beat-sync editing: when cutting to music, use the ms-per-beat tile against your timeline
  • Complex rhythms: dotted notes and triplets are not listed, derive them proportionally
