📖 Tool Introduction
Video Frame Grabber is a completely free online screenshot tool built for one very common task: pulling a single still image out of a video. In the past you might have opened a professional editor, dragged the timeline frame by frame, or relied on a clumsy system screenshot and hoped for the best. Now you simply drop a video onto the page, use the progress bar, a seconds input field, or the previous and next frame buttons to stop the picture on exactly the moment you want, then press one button: the browser draws that frame onto a canvas at the video's native resolution and exports it as a lossless PNG straight to your device. Because it reads pixels from the decoded frame buffer rather than capturing the screen, the exported image carries no window chrome, no watermark and no compression artifacts — it is as sharp as that exact frame of the source video. It is ideal for picking the best expression as a cover, capturing a key operation step for a tutorial, splitting a dynamic clip into usable stills for an archive, or freezing a frame to proofread subtitles. The whole workflow runs locally in the browser with zero uploads, and the Example button lets you rehearse the full flow first. It is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, and works smoothly on both desktop and mobile browsers without any installation. Because the export is driven by canvas drawing rather than a screen capture, the grabbed PNG carries no player chrome, no toolbar and no operating-system border around the edges, which is essential when the still will be reused in slides, articles, documentation or a design mockup. The automatic file naming keeps each grab traceable: the output includes the exact time point and the pixel resolution, so a folder full of extracted frames stays organised without any manual renaming. Whether you need a single hero still or a small sequence of candidate covers, the whole flow stays within a few seconds per frame and never sends a byte anywhere.
✨ Key Features
- Precise timeline: bar dragging, direct seconds input and frame stepping — three ways to position
- Frame-level tuning: steps of about 1/25 second land you exactly on the target instant
- Native-resolution export: drawn straight from the decode buffer, PNG as sharp as the source frame
- Automatic naming: the file name includes the time point and resolution for easy archiving
- Instant preview: the grabbed frame previews on the page before downloading automatically
- Fully local: decoding and drawing never touch the network, with zero uploads
📝 How to Use
- Click the dashed area to choose a video, or drop the file onto the page directly
- Roughly scrub with the bar, or type a number of seconds into Seek to and press Enter
- Use the previous and next frame buttons for 1/25-second fine tuning
- Once the picture is paused on the target moment, click Grab current frame and download PNG
- Inspect the result in the preview area and repeat for any other frames you need
⚠️ Notes
- Decoding limits: playback depends on the browser decoder; a few container formats may not open
- Frame alignment: video frames are not evenly spaced at 25 per second, so stepping is approximate
- Copyright: make sure you are allowed to capture and reuse frames from the video
- Large files: keep a single file under about 1GB, as larger ones may decode slowly
- Auto download: the browser may block the first download; allow it once and it works
