How to Use

📖 Tool Introduction

Video Thumbnail Wall is a completely free online skimming tool that lets you browse the content of an entire video in a single picture. After you drop a video onto the page, you choose how many frames to sample (between 2 and 24) and the thumbnail size; the browser then slices the timeline into even segments, seeks precisely to the midpoint of each segment, draws that frame, and finally assembles a tidy wall of thumbnails. Beneath every thumbnail sits its time stamp, so you instantly know at which minute and second a given scene appears. If one frame turns out to be the cover shot or asset you need, a single click exports that frame as a PNG. This is far more efficient than scrubbing through the timeline second by second, and lighter than installing a third-party capture suite. It is perfect for content moderators judging what a video actually shows, editors picking candidate covers for long clips, operators building a visual index of an asset library, or simply turning a favorite video into a set of stills to keep. Every seek and canvas draw happens locally in the browser with zero uploads. The tool is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, runs smoothly on desktop and mobile browsers, and requires no installation whatsoever. Because each sample is drawn from the decoded buffer rather than taken from the screen, the thumbnails stay sharp even when you pick the large size, and they never carry player controls or borders around the image. The time stamp under every cell makes the wall useful beyond pure browsing: you can jump straight to a favourite scene by remembering its label, or export several frames in a row to build a contact sheet for a client review. The example button fabricates a short colour-cycling clip so you can test the whole flow, including the click-to-download behaviour, before bringing in your own material.

✨ Key Features

  • Even sampling: the timeline is split into equal parts with samples at each midpoint to avoid black frames
  • Adjustable count: choose anywhere from 2 to 24 frames to control grid density
  • Three sizes: small, medium or large thumbnails, always keeping aspect ratio
  • Time labels: every thumbnail shows its corresponding time point below
  • Single-frame download: click any thumbnail to export that frame as PNG
  • Local runtime: frame-by-frame seeking and canvas drawing never touch the network

📝 How to Use

  1. Click the dashed area to choose a video, or drop the file straight onto the page
  2. Enter the number of frames you want (9 by default) in Frame count
  3. Pick Small, Medium or Large in Thumbnail size
  4. Click Build thumbnail wall and wait while frames are sampled in order
  5. Click any thumbnail to save that frame as a PNG

⚠️ Notes

  • Decoding limits: playback depends on the browser decoder; some formats may not sample
  • Sampling time: more frames and longer videos take more time to generate
  • Sequential sampling: frames are drawn one after another; please do not switch tabs meanwhile
  • Single download: clicking a thumbnail downloads just that one frame as PNG
  • Copyright: make sure you are allowed to sample and reuse the video imagery
