📖 Tool Introduction

Look up the registration of a Chinese mobile number across 497,191 prefix records: province, city, carrier, long-distance area code and postal code.

The first three digits identify the carrier and the first seven pin down the province and city. The full prefix table ships inside the tool, covering China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom along with the virtual operators, so no API is ever called.

The database is a compact binary: 4.5 MB holding nearly half a million records. A lookup binary searches the index block and then reads the attribution out of the record block, which finishes in milliseconds.

What you get is where the number was registered, not where its owner is. Numbers travel and can move between carriers through number portability, so treat the result as a hint.

Prefix data is current to February 2023, so newer ranges may be missing. Everything runs locally: the number you type never leaves your device, and no query log is written, which is the reason to prefer this over pasting a number into a web form on someone else is site.

A prefix is issued to a carrier in blocks, so the first seven digits identify the city where the number was originally sold. Carriers later reuse and sometimes reassign ranges, and number portability lets a user keep a number while switching carrier, which is why the carrier shown here can be out of date even when the city is still right.

✨ Key Features

  • 497,191 prefix records, the most complete set publicly available
  • Five fields at once: province, city, carrier, area code and postal code
  • Covers all three major carriers plus virtual operators on each network
  • Binary search over a 4.5 MB file holding nearly 500k records, answering in milliseconds
  • Accepts a seven-digit prefix, so a full number is not required
  • Data lives locally: no network, no upload, the number never leaves your device

🚀 How to Use

  1. Type an eleven-digit mobile number, or just its first seven digits
  2. Press search, or hit Enter
  3. The result shows province, city, carrier, area code and postal code
  4. With only seven digits every number under that prefix shares one attribution, and a miss may mean the range is newer than the February 2023 snapshot
  5. Copy result puts the attribution on your clipboard

⚠️ Things to Note

  • Data source: Compiled from published mobile prefix records: 497,191 entries covering the three major carriers and virtual operators
  • Data cutoff: Prefixes are current to February 2023, so ranges issued after that may not be found. Carriers release new ranges steadily, and virtual operator ranges move fastest, so treat a miss as inconclusive rather than as evidence that a number is invalid
  • Registration, not location: The result is where the number was registered. Users travel and can port between carriers, so this says nothing about current city or current carrier
  • Prefix precision: Lookups resolve to the seven-digit prefix. Every number under one prefix shares the same attribution, and no lookup of this kind can narrow further, since nothing beyond the prefix is published
  • Privacy: The database ships inside the plugin and everything runs locally. The number is never uploaded and no query log is kept
