📖 Tool Introduction

Image Converter is a free online tool for switching between the three mainstream web image formats — PNG, JPEG and WebP — without installing any editing software. After you upload a picture, three format cards appear side by side: PNG keeps transparency and crisp text, JPEG offers the broadest compatibility for everyday photos, and WebP usually produces a smaller file at the same quality, which makes it a great choice for websites and mobile pages. Clicking any card converts the image instantly and shows a live preview on a checkerboard background, so transparent areas are easy to spot. Because JPEG has no alpha channel, the tool includes a fill-color row: three presets — white, light gray and black — switchable in one click, plus a color picker for any custom hue, so photos converted to JPEG never end up with a muddy black halo around their transparent parts. Every conversion is performed locally by the browser's Canvas encoder, which means your pictures never leave your device, and images up to 20MB are processed in seconds. Switching the format or the fill color automatically re-encodes the image, so there is no need to click a process button over and over. The interface is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, follows the site theme, and works smoothly on both desktop and mobile browsers. This makes the tool a handy companion for any workflow that juggles file types: a designer exporting assets for an older browser that only understands JPEG, a developer preparing thumbnails that must stay sharp on retina screens, or a writer turning a screenshot with transparency into a format that a forum can display. The checkerboard preview behaves exactly like professional image editors, so you can spot stray pixels and jagged edges before committing, and the fill-color row means that transparent logos never turn into muddy black blobs when shared outside their original layout.

✨ Key Features

  • Three major formats: convert freely between PNG, JPEG and WebP via clear cards
  • Transparency fill: alpha areas can be filled white, gray, black or any custom color
  • Checkerboard preview: the transparency grid makes the difference visible at a glance
  • Auto re-convert: changing format or fill color re-encodes immediately, what you see is what you get
  • Info readout: the output format, dimensions and file size are always shown
  • Fully local: Canvas encoding runs offline, your images are never uploaded

📝 How to Use

  1. Click the upload area to choose an image, or drag and drop it into the dashed box
  2. Click one of the three format cards on top to select the target format
  3. If you chose JPEG, pick a preset fill color or use the color picker for a custom one
  4. Check the checkerboard preview and the reported file size
  5. Click Download image to save the converted file in the new format

⚠️ Notes

  • Alpha channel: JPEG has no transparency, so alpha areas are filled with the chosen color
  • Animated GIF: only the first frame is converted and animation is not preserved
  • Lossy format: JPEG compression may slightly soften text edges
  • Browser support: older browsers may lack WebP encoding support, so choose accordingly
  • Original stays safe: conversion creates a new file and leaves the local original untouched
