How to Use

📷 EXIF Viewer & Remover

This tool reads the EXIF metadata of a photo and can strip it in one click. EXIF is the block of data embedded in digital photos that records shooting details: camera make and model, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, capture time, and on some photos GPS coordinates.

Pick a JPEG image and the tool parses the APP1/EXIF segment locally in your browser, grouping parameters into readable categories. The removal feature re-encodes the image without the EXIF segment and exports a new file; the original stays untouched. Nothing is uploaded - everything runs on your device.

This suits photographers checking shooting parameters, buyers verifying a seller photo before a purchase, anyone sharing photos after stripping location and camera info for privacy, and archivists confirming capture times.

✨ Key Features

  • Parses full EXIF data of JPEG photos: camera, lens, shooting settings, capture time
  • Shows GPS coordinates when present, with a privacy warning
  • Groups parameters into shooting info / camera info / location categories
  • One-click removal: re-encodes the image without EXIF and exports a new file
  • Original file is preserved; before/after file sizes are shown
  • Fully local processing - photos never leave the browser

A common question is whether removal actually works - yes, the export re-encodes the JPEG without the APP1 EXIF segment, so camera model, time, GPS and lens data are gone from the new file. You can verify by re-loading the exported image in this tool: it will show no EXIF parameters. Keep the original until you are sure the cleaned copy looks right. One caveat: re-encoding reduces the file slightly in most cases, and if the JPEG already had aggressive compression, the second pass may add minor artifacts at the same quality setting.

For photographers, the shooting-info section doubles as a quick recap of how a photo was made - aperture, shutter, ISO and focal length in one place. For buyers, EXIF can confirm whether a listing photo was taken with the claimed camera. For privacy, clearing GPS and camera data before uploading to public forums is good practice. The tool never stores the file, so even sensitive images can be inspected safely.

Tip for verification: after clearing, load the cleaned image back into the tool - the empty EXIF panel confirms the metadata is really gone before you share it.

🚀 How to Use

  1. Click Choose File and select a JPEG image
  2. The tool parses and displays the EXIF parameters, grouped by category
  3. Review capture time, camera model, aperture and shutter values
  4. To remove metadata, click Clear EXIF and wait for re-encoding
  5. Click Download to save the processed image; the original is untouched

⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind

  • Format support: Only JPEG (jpg/jpeg) is supported; PNG, WebP and RAW cannot be parsed
  • Browser limits: Corrupted headers or non-standard JPEG files show a clear parse error instead of crashing
  • Removal is irreversible: Removal applies to the exported copy only, never the original; back up before overwriting
  • Privacy note: Sharing photos with GPS reveals the capture location; strip EXIF before public sharing
  • Field coverage: Vendor-specific fields written by some phones may be incomplete; display follows the standard EXIF set
