📖 Tool Introduction

The Mnemonic Generator is an offline study tool that turns a scattered memorisation task into something you can actually recall. It rests on two well-proven memory principles: chunking and first-letter cueing. You simply paste the items you need to memorise, one per line, such as the Eight Great Prose Masters of the Tang and Song, the first twenty elements of the periodic table, or a list of historical events and dates. The tool instantly builds a three-layer memory structure: an acrostic layer that lifts the first character or letter of every item into a row of large cue letters, a chunking layer that cuts the list into groups of three to five to match the limits of short-term memory, and a linked-sentence layer that weaves the items into colloquial chains using three switchable templates, so the order no longer relies on rote repetition. Everything runs locally in the browser, the interface follows the active language, and the whole routine fits neatly into a phone screen between classes. Whether you are cramming a vocabulary deck, rehearsing a taxonomic hierarchy or drilling a list of treaty dates, the generator turns raw items into a hook you can close your eyes and walk through, which is precisely how long-term recall is built. The chunking limit follows George Miller's famous finding that working memory comfortably holds only about four items at a time, so cutting a long list into groups of four matches the brain's natural slot size rather than fighting it. You can regenerate the same list with a different template whenever one version stops sticking, which keeps the material feeling fresh instead of turning into a rote chant.

✨ Key Features

  • Automatic acrostic: Chinese items take their first character, English items take a capitalised first letter
  • Chunked groups of three to five items, matching what short-term memory can hold at once
  • Three switchable chain styles: order chain, group contrast and arrow progression
  • Adaptive input for two to twenty items, with friendly prompts when the list is too short or too long
  • One-click copy and export so the mnemonic lands in your notes for spaced review
  • Fully offline: every string operation happens in the browser and your list never leaves the device

📝 How to Use

  1. Paste the items to memorise, one per line, into the box
  2. Choose a chunk size (four is recommended) and a chain style
  3. Tap Generate to see the acrostic, chunk groups and linked sentence
  4. Memorise the acrostic first, expand group by group, then recite the chain three times
  5. Copy or export the result to keep it for later review

⚠️ Notes

  • Item count: two to twenty items per run; split longer lists into batches
  • Cue rule: English items use a capital first letter; items starting with punctuation use the first valid character
  • Template limits: the chain sentence is a memory aid, not a substitute for understanding the content
  • Fully local: no network requests, and your pasted list never uploads anywhere
  • Review rhythm: revisiting the mnemonic today, tomorrow and in a week gives the best retention
